WallaseyM2 vs Neston3
Match Report PART 1. by JONNY THOMPSONAnother gorgeous summer night saw Neston 3’s heading to bottom of the table Wallasey Manor for the annual game of ‘who gets a court and who sits around for hours listening to Becky and Sally argue over an Asda parking spot’
In the mens Jay and Jonny took on the two Dan’s, both decent players. Unfortunately Jonny forgot he was at a league match in the first set and, despite Jay’s best efforts, let it slip 6-1. It was a mistake not to be repeated with the next two sets being won easily. At the second pair Craig and Matt had the unenviable task of playing the formidable duo of Les and Steve, Craig played like the rock he normally is for a doubles pair with a level of consistency rarely seen in Div 3, with Matt adding plenty of flair with some of the most sumptuous forehands ever to be seen in the Wirral Summer league, leading them to a VERY good 5&6 win!
In the ladies our top pair of Izzy and Kirstie had everything under control from the start, the big hitting duo stormed to a 6-2 win in the first and then held their nerve to bring home maximum points with a 7-5 win in the second (never in any doubt). Shirley and Laura had a tougher night at second pair with a tricky ladies duo from the manor prevailing in straight sets.
On to the mixed we went, and what a battle for the first three matches who got on court! All three went to championship tiebreaks, with Shirley getting revenge for her woman’s loss, winning hers with Matt 10-5 (easy money). Jay and Izzy lost a really tight mixed, that could’ve been decided long before a champ tiebreak, and Craig and Laura just came out the wrong side of the points against Mr Moonball and Carole. The final mixed pairing of Jonny and Kirstie unfortunately fell foul of the lack of courts, and reluctantly rolled on to start their match at 9:30pm! Despite this Kirstie was outstanding from the start, hitting some of the cleanest forehands of the week and forcing the Wallasey pair into countless mistakes, Jonny hopped on for the ride and dragged along by Kirstie, Neston got a ridiculously fast win (less than 40 mins) 6-0 6-3.
A 30-18 win secured… on to the next one 💪
Match Report PART 2! by ISSY EVANS
Wallasey Manor away - never anyone’s favourite fixture in the calendar, 3 courts between 4 and an hour’s wait to get on court. However, the mighty 3’s stayed awake and alert (just) to pull off an impressive after-dark victory.
Jason and Jonny gave the first men a sniff of a chance at glory before pulling off an impressive comeback to secure the win in the champs tie break. Matt and Craig pulled off the longest straight sets victory in recent memory, putting on an epic display for the waiting crowds.
Izzy and kirstie pulled off a clinical straight sets victory in the ladies, with Shirley and Laura putting in a valiant attempt, particularly given the last minute changes in line up.
The mixed matches were…mixed…J/izzy and Craig/Laura lost narrowly in the champs tie break, but secured crucial sets for the team. Shout out to Jonny/Kirstie and Matt/Shirley for pulling off a couple of no nonsense victories to wrap up a superb team win - onto the next 💪🏻
