Oxton1 vs Neston2

The heat and a couple of questionable courts made it a difficult evening for the 2s at Oxton this week. “I’ve seen park courts in better condition” was one of the few PG phrases heard during the night.

The opening rubbers were shared, two straight set wins apiece and 12-12 at half-time. Coming off the back of an impressive win over Pinewood, Oxton smelt blood but this Neston team stood firm.

Andy & Laura picked up a straight sets win in the mixed which would ultimately prove vital as the other 3 rubbers went into a decider. Harry & Zoe lost agonisingly 11-9 in their 3rd set so it was onto the top two “courts” to see out the rest of the match which saw mind games aplenty.

Matt & Grace took their first set 6-1 but Oxton sending Matt on the hunt for a ball whilst serving at break point down turned out to be a masterstroke for the home side as they saw out the 2nd set and the tiebreak. This left it down to Rich & Mel to guide Neston home. Rallying from a set down, they managed to grab the 2nd set 6-4 and with the light fading fast they kept their nerve to win the tie-break 10-5 and turn a draw into a 26-22 win.

Superb performance from the 2s this week and onto a top of the table clash with Pinewood next week
