After last week’s miserable downpours, the sun certainly foreshadowed the team’s victory this week as the 5s secured yet another hard fought 26-22 victory, this time against Pinewood 3s. 🥇

To start we had two comfortable wins in the blistering heat with me and Dave winning 6-3, 6-1 and Anna and Breanna winning 7-5, 6-2. Howard & George and Fiona & Ros played great matches but were unfortunate to not have the score line reflect their performance. With the 5s being tied against Pinewood at half time, the pressure was on for the mixed matches.

Despite the fear of Anna’s shoulder dislocating mid serve, we secured a strong 6-3, 6-3 win to open. Howard and Fiona went the distance in their match, narrowly missing out 8-10 in their championship tie break. George and Ros were unfortunate to miss out on a well battled match of 4-6, 4-6.

That left Dave and Breanna to claim the victory for the 5s. After a strong opening set of 6-3, rumours began circulating that Mr. Hayhurst was hoping for a similar second set in order to make it into the bar in time for the England kick-off. Unfortunately for him, tennis had other ideas with a long awaited 7-5 victory, securing victory for the 5s. This also secured a great team debut for Breanna, with no sets dropped the entire night.

Another great performance for the team tonight, and all in good time before our title decider against Upton 3s next week 🎾🏆
