Neston4 vs Oxton2

Match Report by Laura merchant

Neston 4’s were back in action on Tuesday night against Oxton 2, battling through classic Parkgate conditions… a little wind, a bit of drizzle, some surprise sunshine, and the Parkgate midges turning up in force to support from the sidelines!

Halfway through the battle, the sunshine broke through and a stunning double rainbow appeared over the courts… surely a little sign that it was going to be Neston’s night 🌈

Even the opposition knew they were in for the full Parkgate experience, dousing themselves in spray in a desperate attempt to keep the midges at bay! 🦟

The men got us off to a flying start, with our 1st pair Johnny and Jason putting in a strong performance to take their match 6-2 6-3.

Our 2nd pair Craig and Mark were clearly in no mood to hang around either, storming through their match with a brilliant 6-2 6-1 win.

The ladies’ matches brought a bit more drama. Hannah and Molly started strongly taking the first set 6-2 before Oxton fought back to take the second 6-4, leaving it all down to the championship tie break… and the Neston girls held their nerve to come through 10-6.

Sue and Laura clearly didn’t want to miss out on the excitement, edging a tight first set 7-6 before dropping the second 4-6. Another championship tie break followed, and they delivered when it mattered, taking it 10-6.

With a great lead heading into the mixed, Neston kept pushing on.

Johnny and Hannah had another battle on their hands, taking the first set 6-4 before Oxton fought back in the second. But they held their nerve when it counted, coming through a nail-biting championship tie break 11-9.

Jason and Molly kept the momentum going with a fantastic mixed performance, staying strong throughout and taking another great win for the team.
