Match Report by RACHEL SCHOFIELDWeek 2 saw the 1st team take to the grass courts. The lawns were left beautifully long, creating bounce patterns that not even Hawkeye could explain, but there was little moaning from all, apart from Emma of course!
It was a shaky start for some, Emma and Rach battled hard but narrowly lost in 3 sets, while both men’s pairs kindly decided to keep things brief with efficient 2-set defeats. Thankfully Amber and Lydia arrived to restore order, calmly securing 6 points with a straight sets win.
After Round 1 we found ourselves 16-8 down, but we soon turned it around. Heath and Rach cruised through thanks to a walkover. Emma and Thom were last on court, battling heroically under the lights to grind out another huge 6 points. Lydia and Rich “The Machine” made everything look disgustingly easy, while Amber and Coyle completely owned the grass courts — with Amber showing absolutely no mercy.
Special mention has to go to Amber and Lydia, the undisputed stars of the night, not dropping a single set between them and looking borderline unplayable throughout.
And once again, when the pressure was on, the mixed pairs delivered.
Final score: 32-16.
