Pinewood3 vs Neston5

Match Report by GEORGE FALCK

With a late injury due to a bizarre banana board incident and a late change of venue to the newly discovered Neston Rec tennis courts, there was anxiety in the ranks as the mighty 5s turned up at Biker Grove in an attempt to get the win before daylight got the better of us. At this point our Vice Vice Vice captain Fiona Goldstraw gave us a rallying team talk and off we went to our “tennis courts”

Amongst the Football, Netball, Basketball, Pickleball, Handball, tennis lines that made up the surface it only took a few games to get most of the Neston Elite athletes firing. Can’t be said for poor Reece who got his lines VERY mixed up and opened the match with 3 double faults. But after a quick visit to the bushes to empty his bladder he was up to his usual strong antics.

Amongst the moans, groans and dubious line calls Neston quickly took the lead in most matches with 3/4 matches won at the half way point.

In the mixed, Pinewood starting deploying delaying tactics in the hope bad light would spare their embarrassment and unfortunately despite Kate and George winning one set in record time they were ushered off court by the Brio security team midway through a deciding tie break.

Overall a solid win retaining top spot in the league, winning 6 matches and drawing 1 with 13 sets taken back to the Club.

Final score: 15-33 Win
