Match Report by PETE HARRAHILLA bruising start for George and Pete H, who found themselves 0–4 down in the first set. But with some great motivational chat, lightning-fast running from George and consistent serving from Pete, they fought back to force a tie-break.
At 0–6 down in the tie-break, the legend of Court 8 was born (according to George and Pete anyway). They somehow turned it around to take the first set 8–6 in the tie-break. The second set was much more even and, once again, was taken by Neston in a tie-break.
The superb camaraderie continued into the second match and Neston flew out of the blocks, going two games up in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, the momentum started to shift, errors crept in, and they went down 4–6. Undeterred, the maximum effort continued, but despite plenty of encouragement between them, the match started to slip away through unforced errors and missed opportunities.
A loss for Neston, but on another night it could easily have been a different story. A fantastic effort from a great partnership.
Jason and Will made far less of a meal of their matches, dispatching Wallasey's top pair with minimal fuss. With Will taking his game to new heights and Jason solid and reliable as always, neither opposition pair really had a chance, despite the amount of standing around they had to endure between matches.
With the light fading fast, the second pair were seen off with a similar lack of fuss. Another superb team effort.
