After scraping past Oxton in the away fixture, we knew this was never going to be easy. There was a minor controversy at the start over court selection, with the grass out of action the team were split between astro & clay so the captain pulled rank and stuck the team on the astro. It proved to be a master stroke at the start with the team of Kathy, Mel, Issy, Kirstie, Jack, Andy, Matt & Jonny racing into a 24-0 lead at the half-way point with some impressive performances all round and a couple of bagels thrown in there.

The mixed proved a little trickier with one retirement going Oxton’s way and Kathy/Jack losing an epic 3 setter 11-9 in the final set. But it was still a great night with 38 points secured and with Pinewood dropping a couple of sets to our 3s, we go into next week’s home tie with Pinewood 52 points clear and with only a draw needed to secure the title with a game to spare.
