Neston1 vs Heswall1
Match Report by rich suttonHeswall visited Parkgate for what was football's equivalent of a six-pointer in a tightly contested Division One basement battle.
Thom Jones returned to the line-up with a great win in the top men's alongside his good friend Andy "Heathy". After two closely fought sets, they came through in a tense championship tie-break.
The top women's match was a similar story, with the in-form pairing of Rachel Schofield and Emma Fearnley securing another hard-fought victory in a championship tie-break.
Second men's brought together the exciting young talent of Guy Bradshaw and the experience of Rich Sutton. The new partnership clicked immediately, producing a comfortable straight-sets win for the Neston duo.
In the second ladies, Lydia Preece and Olivia Robinson proved far too strong. Heswall didn't know what had hit them as the home pair cruised to an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Third and fourth mixed were wrapped up in record time, both ending in straight sets with some excellent tennis on display.
Heathy and Emma weren't far behind, producing another commanding straight-sets victory.
That left just one rubber on court, and what a finish it was. Thom and Rachel held their nerve to claim victory in near pitch-black conditions, with a healthy crowd staying to watch the dramatic finale.
Overall, it was a huge win and a significant step towards safety for the first team, who ran out deserved 42-6 winners.
Well played, everyone. More of the same next week.
